Lyrics
THE LABYRINTH - Words & Music by Aly Aleigha
Lost in a labyrinth of hope
Clues are hidden discreetly through the terrors of the sharp-stoned canopy
You’ll emerge from these trials stronger than before
The desert cannot swallow you if you endure the war
That is waging deep within your bones
Raging in recesses of your soul
So don’t give in, now, friend. Don’t give in, now, lovely one.
[Chorus]
A little spark
Is all it takes to start a roaring flame
The wood of your heart
May be too wet from your tears now, but soon the kindling will come alive again
So don’t despair
When the ghosts that dwell within this hollow pit seek you out
All they can really do
When they invade is just pass through
And make you stronger
Yes, you’ll be stronger for facing them
You may be lost in a labyrinth, but there’s hope
Clues are hidden discreetly through the terrors of this sharp-stoned canopy
You’ll emerge from these trials stronger than before
The desert cannot swallow you, you will endure the war
That is waging deep within your bones
Raging in recesses of your soul
So take heart now, my friend. Together we’ll conquer this, my lovely one
[Chorus]
Oh, you’ll be stronger…
Stronger….
About the Song
The title track of Aly Aleigha’s 2016 album, which is also her first full-length record, was born of deep emotion and suffering. Sitting on the floor of her bedroom in her heartbreak, she cried out to God wondering where He was in her scenario. She wanted to trust Him, that everything was going to be ok, but it didn’t feel ok. She picked up her guitar and began strumming, and a soothing prayer emerged. She pictured herself in a labyrinth, in a giant maze with dark cave-like walls. She felt stuck, unable to move, with no way out. But as she strummed and meditated on this image, she envisioned moving through the labyrinth toward the opening where light was streaming in. As she ran toward the light, the dark and daunting walls around her transformed into crystals—and she understood that the Lord was saying He has the power to turn even the darkest hardships into something beautiful. God can bring good out of any scenario. Human tendency is to push through the pain, to avoid it or get through it as quickly as possible, but sometimes there is no way around it and no quick way through it. In those moments, the Lord meets us in our heartache and promises us the Resurrection is coming.
