Lyrics
WAIT OUT THE RAIN - Words & Music by Aly Aleigha
Verse 1:
I’ll take a biscuit and a café con leche
If you don’t mind I’ll sit here and wait out the rain
Your company is sweet to me
But when the time comes, I’ll be on my way
Mmm.
Verse 2:
Well the skies are clearing, I’d best be on the move
There’s a place a few miles along to lay my head
This road can get lonesome, this pack can weigh me down, but I’ll do it
Just to prove to myself that I can
Chorus 1:
Lace up my shoes
Cinch up my pack
Oh let’s go walkin’ in the blazing sun till we
find our way back
Is there a place where no one goes?
What do you say we head there
Verse 3:
Funny how when we’re lost, we all knew to come here
They say not all who wander have gone astray
So tell me your story, show a stranger your heart
‘Cause we’re all together along the way
Oooh, ahhhh
Oooh, ahhhh
Oooh, ahhhh
Oooh,
Chorus 2:
Lace up my shoes
Cinch up my pack
Oh let’s go walkin’ in the blazing sun till we / find our way back
To new horizons
Within ourselves
Maybe this road that leads to nowhere in particular
Will lead me
Home
Bridge:
I’m not running from anything
But I’m walking in a new direction
Sure, my heart’s been broken a time or two
But I think maybe I came here for you
Oh, I think maybe the reason was you
Oh, all along it was you
Oh, Always you
There’s something about you….
Verse 4:
Forgive me, friend, don’t even know why I came here
All I can say is something pulled me along this road
Your company is my energy….
Realized I can’t do this on my own
I’ve been trying to do this on my own
But I don’t wanna do this my own
About the Song
Rain spattered against the window. I was in a café somewhere in Spain; I wasn’t sure exactly where, only that the yellow painted arrows on the pavement and the chipped shells etched into random stone structures told me I was on the right path. To where? Nowhere in particular. I knew the destination was Santiago, Spain—and after that, 3 more day’s hike to Finnisterre, the “end of the world.” But I didn’t really know why I was doing this. What did I hope to find along the Way, trudging through dense forests and clambering breathlessly up rugged mountains? I just knew that I had a yearning for adventure, and an intrepid (or stupid) desire to see if I was capable of doing something as strenuous as this—wandering into the unknown with nothing but what I could carry on my back (which I gladly rid myself of after the first week, realizing that small comforts and even some necessities were not worth the added weight).
Along the Way, I found myself in many cafés like this one, fumbling with my awkward Spanish and a sheepish smile to place my order, waiting for the rain to subside, or just to find some reprieve from the blisters in my boots or the weight of my pack which seemed heavier with every passing mile.
I met unique and incredible people, all from different paths of life, all with their own mysterious reasons for being here. Some people came and went but left a lasting impression on me. Others lingered and we walked closely together for the rest of our Camino, sharing hearts with strangers who quickly became friends. Some days we were delirious, belly laughing at nothing of consequence. Most days we couldn’t bear to wake up before dawn and start the daunting road again because of the profound ache in our bodies, but we also recognized deep in our bones that we wanted this. Badly. And we didn’t know why. So we found it within ourselves to continue. And somewhere in the midst of that, we tasted what we are capable of and discovered more of who we are.

In 2017, Aly Aleigha decided to hike 200+ miles through the mountains of Spain in summer heat before launching into a full-time career as an independent music artist. Those two weeks hiking the Camino de Santiago (the “Primitivo” route) were filled with adventure, new and deepening friendships, and self-discovery—especially in learning to embrace challenges and solitude.
